New Tehri is a modern town developed at the hilltop, spread over an altitude from 1550-1950 mts above sea level overlooking the gigantic lake and the Tehri dam. You can also see Himalaya Views from New Tehri early in the morning or on clear days. New Tehri is a city and a municipal board in Tehri Garhwal District in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is the administrative headquarters of Tehri Garhwal District. New Tehri’s urban municipality area has 11 wards. A modern town and the headquarter of the Tehri-Garhwal district, New Tehri is an adventure tourism hub. Overlooking the massive Tehri Lake and dam, the well-planned town draws tourists, who come here for its natural beauty and the opportunity to enjoy innumerable water sports in the lake. The dam is the highest of its kind in India and is regarded among the world’s largest hydroelectric projects. It stands on the Bhagirathi river. New Tehri is perched high on a hill and offers the serenity of a hill-station. Surrounded by beautiful temples and dense forests, and set against soaring Himalayan peaks, New Tehri is an ideal vacation spot. Several adventure events are organised here throughout the year, the most popular being the (Tehri Lake Festival).
